DENALI NATIONAL PARK
ALASKA
August 25 – 31
This premier trip takes you deep into the heart of Denali National Park where few tourists venture. Just the mention of Denali conjures up images of spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and one of the last places to experience the vastness of nature. Fall comes early to Alaska, and being here during the brief autumn season is a rare and fleeting experience. The tundra spreads out before you for miles in shades of red, gold, and orange. Wildlife is at its best at this time of year with perfect coats and matured antlers. And high above it all is the awe-inspiring Denali with its mantle of snow, the highest mountain is North America. On past trips we have seen dall sheep, migrating caribou, moose, bear, migrating birds, and more.
Our base is the best of the park’s lodgings, the secluded North Face Lodge. This acclaimed lodge is a warm and inviting haven in the remote wilderness, with rustic but well-appointed rooms, each with private bath, and chef-prepared meals made fresh for us each day.The lodge provides us with our own private vehicle, driven by an expert naturalist who takes us to the best locations and provides detailed information about the native animals and plants. All the lodge’s naturalists are well-versed in the natural history of the area, and provide excellent educational information each day.
ITINERARY: We meet in Anchorage and travel to the entrance of Denali National Park by motorcoach. After a restful night at one of the best-rated hotels at the park entrance, we are transported by bus deep into the park to our base, the North Face Lodge. The next several days are spent photographing a wide variety of wildlife, breath-taking landscapes, soaring mountains, and colorful tundra. On our last day we are transported back to the park entrance, and then return to Anchorage via the acclaimed Alaska Railroad.
